about sheen
my adventure began on a cold wet october night. as mom was going into heavy labor and needing to get to the hospital, dad rushed to the car to find out that someone had sideswiped it. one of the doors was jammed and he had to use a crowbar on the bumper to make the car drivable. several curses and screams of pain later i was born on the morning of october 2nd, 1973.
I grew up for the first 5 years of my life in a cute little white house on east 24th in vancouver. things were awesome those first few years. just me, mom and dad. all of that changed on november 26th, 1976 when my little sister joined the family. i told my parents a week after meghan came home that she could go back where she came from. no luck.
just before i started grade 1 we moved to the home my folks still live in today. it’s a big brown duplex. nana and grampa lived next door, which was awesome. if i didn't like what mom was cooking for dinner i could walk next door and nana would ALWAYS cook me anything i wanted. the location wasn't bad either. the house is right in front of my elementary school. i could just roll out of bed, put on some clothes, and head to school in less than 10 minutes. i've always loved my sleep.
its was in elementary school that i met 2 of my dearest friends. jessica befriended me in grade 1. we were friends for 16 years before, sadly, she left this earth from a heart attack at the age of 21. never being one to miss a party, i know she'll be on the dance floor with me on my wedding day. sheila was "the new kid" in grade 7. she still amazes me to this day with her musical talents and i just LOVE her laugh.
my education continued on to burnett junior secondary and then to richmond high school where i majored in theater. during my grade 12 year i pretty much ate, slept and breathed theatre. if i could have gotten away with only taking theatre classes, i would have done it!
i graduated in 1991 wondering what to do. i ended up going to kwantlen college, which was a mistake. i had no clue as to what i wanted to do with my life. i wasted a year there before auditioning for the american academy of dramatic arts in california. this was THE school that people go to who are interested in theatre. the audition went perfect and i was accepted. only about 70 students of the 700 who auditioned got to go. this was my first real time away from home.
it was while studying at aada that i met another dear friend, anjanette. we never really hung out while we were at the academy, but have become close friends since. she has such a kind heart and soft gentle voice. a real angel on earth.
when i arrived home from california i took on full-time employment as well as night business management classes. i completed the program, earning a degree a few years later. i also took a flight attendant course, which is ironic. you see, i love to travel but don’t like to fly because i'm horribly afraid of heights.
i've worked full time since then, mostly keeping jobs in the management feild. for the last 3+ years i’ve worked at the rainforest cafe restaurants as an international trainer, part time manager and safari guide. once i can legally work in the states, i hope to transfer to the seattle location as the company is amazing to work for. i’ve met so many awesome people working at rainforest. tina, who is my other bridesmaid, and carlene, who is doing our make-up and hair, are just a few that i’ve had the extreme pleasure of meeting and calling friends.
while not working, i fill up the rest of my time by going to the gym 6 days a week, belly dancing, reading, and trying to become a better person. i would like to make some sort of positive difference in the world.
december 9th will be an incredible day, i just hope i’m able to relax enough to enjoy it. i've waited a long time to find a man like cale. i feel complete now that he's in my life. i look forward to the future and what it may hold for us.
