My Parents
Daniel Ralph Burr, 21
Cheryl Maleane Gunter, 20
Married on July 3, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Longview, Washington. Mom sewed her own wedding dress and their going away outfits (suit for her and special shirt for him).
Mom and dad's courtship began May 3, 1960 while riding the school bus home together. Mom was only 14 years old.

Mom's Parents
Thomas LeRoy Gunter, 23
Elsie Leella Bodine, 20
Married on April 13, 1942 in Seattle, WA at minister Judge Claypool's home during WWII. Grampa wore his Army uniform and grandma wore a maroon velvet dress.
Grandma was born April 4, 1922 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and came to the U.S. with her parents as a small child (about 2 years old). LeRoy was born in Perry, Florida on August 30, 1918. At 22, he came to Longview, Washington where he met Elsie at a Shivaree, which were popular in those days.
Grandma passed away in September 30th, 1981.

Dad was born November 17, 1943 in Longview, Washington. He was raised there and now lives next door to the house he grew up in. Cheryl was born May 7, 1945 in Lawton, Oklahoma. That day, the newspaper headline read, "GERMANS QUIT." (Both mom & dad were born during WWII.) Cheryl moved to Longview at 2 months old, when her father was discharged from the Army at Ft. Lewis, Washington

Dad's Parents
Clifford Lawrence Burr, 23
Pearl Irene Newt, 19
Married on October 16, 1936 in St. Helens, Oregon by a county judge. They eloped with another couple, who were their witnesses. It was hard times during the Depression. Grandpa had no job.
Grandpa was born June 17, 1913 in Stella, Washington and raised in Centralia, Washington. Granny was born in Kamloops, B.C., Canada on August 31, 1917. At 6 years she moved to the U.S. with her parents in 1923, the year the city of Longview, Washingon was born. Grandpa was living at his grandparent's place when he met Granny.
Grampa passed away March 9th, 1983. |
